Voted the best ad of all time by Channel 4, ITV and The Independent, the Guinness Surfer is one of Soundtree’s many collaborations with director Jonathan Glazer. Shot in Hawaii, the black and white film combines shots of local surfers scaling gigantic waves with references to 19th century painting and the novel Moby Dick. The thumping drum beat was created by British rave act Leftfield, who later released the music as ‘Phat Planet’ on their 1999 album Rhythm and Stealth.
